When Toby turned around, Sterling was standing there laughing quietly. He greeted her with a friendly kiss on the cheek. Her raven wing hair had a bluish cast in the noonday sunshine, her dark eyes sparkling.
“Sorry I’m late,” she returned the kiss. “You lie way too well, Toby. How do you do that?”
“I’m innately dishonest,” was the glib reply. “But I’m so upfront about it, it comes across as total honesty.” He shrugged as he flopped down on the ground. “It’s a gift.”
“You’re insane.” She flopped beside him, slipping off her shoes.
“It’s part of my charm.”
