“How many are there?”
“Three. I swear, just us three.”
“Why are you watching me? I’ve got nothing worth stealing. I’m a working stiff.”
“I really don’t know. Boss man told me to cover you, I’m here.”
“Who’s your boss?”
“Buddy, it’s more than my life’s worth to tell you that.”
“Then you go back and you tell your boss man this. And you quote me. You’re f**king with the wrong guy. I will find you and I will end you. Repeat that.”
Hesitantly, the man did. Teague made him repeat it until he was word perfect.
“Now, you go tell your boss that. And unless you want to get caught in the hell that’s coming, you get your ass out of town.”
“I’m sorry,” the man babbled. “I’m so sorry!” He ran down the slope of the yard, across the street and to the park a couple blocks away.
