“Why were you on the way there?” She dropped her bag on the floor. It clanked.
“I was going out there to think. I needed to figure out how to find you. Couldn’t leave you on your own.”
Her chin dropped and he knew she was trying to hide her emotions. A deep, shuddering breath confirmed that.
“You have no idea—what this means to me. Why are you being so nice?”
“Because you can’t keep this up on your own. You need help, even if you don’t want to admit it. You’re strong, Nadeya, but we all have our limits. Besides, I have something you don’t.”
“Like what? Great abs, taut thighs and testicles?” Sarcasm dripped from her voice.
Jasper laughed. “In addition to those, I also have the resources and connections you need to help you find these guys and drop them.”
“Why would you do this for me? You could lose your job—or be killed.”
Jasper shrugged. “I don’t know. I really don’t.” He shook his head.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
