The band was taking a short break, getting drinks and going to the bathroom. One of the businesses, which had sponsored them, allowed them to come in and use their facilities. There were also several porta-potties nearby, but the talent didn’t have to queue up for them. Grace led me over to the band members. Dana launched herself at her sister.
“I didn’t think you’d come!” She hopped up and down happily, holding Grace’s hands. “Who’s this?” She turned her attention to me. It was such an abrupt transition, I gasped and blinked.
“This is—oh, I’ve forgotten your name.”
“How do you forget the name of the cutest man alive?” Dana asked.
“Hey!” her husband yelled, grinning.
“Well, except for you, honey,” she said in a cajoling tone that was completely insincere. It didn’t seem to bother Clay. He came over to greet me.
