“Yes. And I want that for her too, but this isn’t the way. Besides, how can she be sure? We had definitive proof on Ainsworth. It was was open and shut, irrefutable. This guy?” She shrugged.
“That’s what I wanna find out, Iz. I want to make sure Nadeya doesn’t make a horrible mistake. I want to help her find the truth and keep her safe from it.”
“That’s a tall order, Teague. Even for you.”
“She’s my friend.”
Isobel leaned across her desk, half standing. Her dark eyes bored into his, full of suppressed anger. “You—aren’t—Superman!”
Teague remained calm, sitting back in his chair with his long legs stretched in front of him. “I don’t have to be. I just have to be me.”
