Closing his eyes, Teague relaxed his grip. “It was Nadeya, okay? I stayed with her. It was right after they caught Ainsworth. She was having nightmares and didn’t want to be alone. I slept with her, nothing more.”
Aileen shook free. “Why couldn’t you just say that? I would have understood!”
“It wasn’t my secret to tell. I never betray a friend’s trust.”
Aileen slapped him again, then kissed the red mark on his cheek. “If you’d just told me, we might still be together.”
“If you’d trusted me, we would be.” Teague walked slowly up the steps.
