Before I could get back to the office and get to work I ran right smack into, who else but my ex-husband Louie coming out of the kitchen with a tray of food.
We stood there and stared at each other not wanting to be the first person to speak. The food was all over the floor. I managed to say, “You might want to get that cleaned up.” I dashed off to the bathroom to be ill.
I hadn’t seen Lou since our divorce several years earlier. I had divorced him post haste when he announced in front of most of the GTA on Speaker’s Corner that he was indeed gay and was proclaiming his ever-lasting devotion to his same sex lover. He hadn’t considered breaking it to the poor wife first and I guess the humiliation was worse than the heartbreak. I had just lost a baby and hadn’t even gotten over that yet when he broke my heart and shattered my trust in the male gender altogether.
Could the day get any weirder? I really didn’t want to know as I hollered for Karen and Chris to meet me in the office.
