THE CONVERGENCE: BOOK TWO OF THE TRANSLATIONS FROM JORTHUS SERIES by Ruth Davis Hays.
“Is a Djinn required in order to open the Door?” Lylith asked.
“Yes, unfortunately. Since the Djinn are the essence of majiks made physical, the power and limitless reach they provide is the best way to cross the gateways of time and space for us poor mortals. Pure divine majiks made matter. Imagine it.” Master Calbraum sighed thoughtfully. “I never had the courage to travel to the northern lands where the Djinn roam. Oh, but to have the bravery to challenge the gods in the ultimate test of power… the capture of a Djinn! I used to dream of such a feat. Alas,” he sighed again, “I lacked the skill and the bolls to do it. That is why I gave the only scroll I had for bottling a Djinn to your father.”
Lylith felt her chest tighten with disappointment. “Your only scroll? You don’t have another?”
He peered across the table into her distinctive, violet eyes. “No, I don’t. You’ve combed through all that I possess, mistress. Why? He never had the chance to use the one I gave him.”
Sheepishly, she admitted, “I used it.”
“What?!” Master Calbraum was not angry, just surprised and instantly intrigued. “What happened, my dear? Tell me all.”
