Cassandra sat for what seemed like an eternity staring at a face she saw buried in St. Andrew’s cemetery less than a year ago. “Betcha never thought you’d see this ol’ mug again?” John said as he took a seat across the table. “You’re a cop?” Cassie yelled, angered by the betrayal. If she wasn’t in cuffs, he’d be in big trouble. “Yep!” he calmly said staring back at her with a grin.
“Whatever you are thinking, the answer is no.” she growled.
“Alright, we’ll just leave you here for the Cosimos. They’ll be here shortly, Bennie Two-Faced already saw ya and called it in to the boss.” Just as he had finished speaking, he played the recorded phone call to her.
She recognized Bennie’s voice immediately saying, “Yeah, got the bitch dead in my sight. I musta missed her at the entrance.”
Cassie also recognized the voice on the other end, it was her brother Dominic, callously replying, “Don’t let that dumb whore outta your site. If she get’s on that plane, we’re all dead!”
Clicking the recorder off, John leaned forward and said in his Long Island accent, “Come on Cassie, you ain’t gonna let a culo (ass) like Dom take you out? It’s beneath you.”
She clearly had two choices, become a martyr for the mob and quietly be murdered as so many had before her, or become a snitch. The phone recording was damning. If he hadn’t played it, she might have taken her chances and faced her brother. However, seeing there was no reason to protect them anymore, Cassandra reluctantly nodded her head yes.
Just then an officer appeared in the room, and said, “Detective Amato, it’s time.” Getting out of his chair he signaled for Cassie and uncuffed her. “Lieutenant, make sure Miss Fenetti is placed in protective custody.” With that he left the room and Cassandra was led out of the lounge to a fate far worse than death for a Mafia Princess.
